Strange stuff

Let me tell you a story about what happened at Schiphol 2 days ago. Liesbeth (Lies) is a good friend of mine. She's a CA for KLM. Thursday she was heading to Shanghai PVG. Around 12.30, she called me at work to tell me that she may not be going, because someone collided with her aircraft. An hour later, she SMS'ed me to let me know that she was still going, because they pulled the aircraft from the Houston IAH flight and sent it to PVG. I didn't think much of the whole situation... accidents happen all the time at airports.

Yesterday morning I did an up- and down Amsterdam AMS-Moscow SVO. It was not planned, but crewco called me and ask me to fill-in for someone who got sick in LHR, so could not continue to SVO. In the BMC (bemanningscentrum/crew center) I met up with my buddy Markus Schuit. He works at KLM E&M as an Engineer Base Maintenance. While we were catching up on stuff, he told me that he pulled an all-nighter to get a 747-400 back in action for a flight to Chicago ORD. I was like... was this the KL893 to PVG?? He said: "Jaaa, hoe weet jij dat dan?" (Yes, how did you know). I then told him about the story from Lies. He said he had pics and he would email them to me. As promised he did. Take a look and I'll explain...

Explanation: The guy driving the KLM vehicle... a Citroën C3... works for KLM Cargo and fell asleep while driving. He then 'parked' the car in a General Electric engine of a KLM 747-400, PH-BFY... nicknamed City of Johannesburg. Hmmm... sucks to be him! Oops!

Another strange story. R. went on a 72 hour Paramaribo last week. Yes... again! When he came back, he told me about this captain he flew a Hong Kong HKG with. Well, let me tell you... 1 year ago on the HKG he was a man, and on the PBM he was now a woman. Whereas he was first Erik, he... uhm... I mean she is now called Ellen! Meet Ellen...

Now there is nothing wrong with that and I have absolutely no problems with it either. It's just that you never see this sort of stuff. Well except for the tranny who worked as a Flight Attendant at Air Holland. I wonder where she is now? Anyway, Ellen likes women. So she is now a lesbian. You go girl! R E S P E C T!

The Senior Purser of that same flight was Richard Raymann, a buddy from Robin... and also a Surinamese. It was his first flight as a SP. Total coincedence that they flew together. When they arrived at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport... also called Zanderij... they were awaited by Rachel Raymann. She works there for Martinair. I know Rachel, because she used to work at Schiphol. First for Martinair and later for KLM as an Gate Agent for Northwest Airlines. She has since moved back to Suriname. And surprise, surprise... my old colleague from KLM SPL/PG was also present. Juan Pigot. He too works for Martinair in PBM as a Deputy Service Manager. I tell ya... it's a small world.

On a lighter note the flight I did to SVO was with the new PH-BXV. Normally the flight to SVO is carried out with a 737-900, due to its heavy loads. But to the aircraft having a technical problem in Kiev KBP, we got the 737-800 instead. We had one CA too much, so she was pulled and put on another flight to Manchester MAN. The PH-BXV is the newest airplane in the KLM fleet and the only 737 with winglets.

But it's a special aircraft to me. You know why? Well the -800 series from KLM are named after birds. This particular aircraft's nickname in Dutch is Roodborstje. Roodborstje in English is...

Leuk dat je je eigen vliegtuig hebt, Robin. Of moet ik je nou Roodborstje noemen?

I don't understand... he fell asleep behind the weel at one of the busiest airports in the world?! He's just lucky he didn't end up in the engine or that loser would be gone to another life! Seriously! A few years back a ramp worker at my company (Continental) got sucked in a 737 engine, while he was marshalling the aircraft to the gate. I don't know the circumstances, but the dude got sucked in the right engine.

Well of course it sucked for his family, but also for the pax, because the flight got cancelled.
