Sightseeing in Superb Shanghai

Holiday Inn Pudong Hotel, Shanghai - Local time 23.45

We went sightseeing all around this great city we call Shanghai. We went with a whole group of people. We bought day passes on the underground and that's the way we got around the great city. We started the day by having breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Freddy came down to say goodbye and took a taxi to Pudong Airport. He was going back home. He didn't stay any longer, because he and his girlfriend are going on vacation on my island Aruba for 10 days. Fijne vakantie jongen!

From there we met the others in front of the hotel and together we took the metro and went to discover Shanghai. Besides us of AFC we were there with some KLM crew members that were on lay-over, including a buddy of mine Mohamed who is a Second Officer for KLM on the 777. Also some people we met in the hotel.

First we went to the Longyang Station to take the Maglev train. The Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) is the fastest train in the world. It works on magnets and it doesn't touch the rails. It floats. What a feeling it was to experience that. R. was in Shanghai a few times before and he told me about it. This thing goes 430 kilometers an hour!!!

We came off at Dongfang Station and walked around and shopped a little in Pudong. In the afternoon we went to have lunch at McDonald's.

After that we headed back to the hotel for a break. We were kind of tired. I decided to shower and get a change of clothes.

Within an hour we were back on the road again. Next stop... a famous Shanghai sight. The Oriental Pearl Tower. It is the tallest tower in Asia and the 3rd tallest in the world. One word... wow!

From there we took the Maglev back to Longyang Road and took a bus to the best night market in Shanghai... Xiang Yang Fashion Market.

From there we headed to Nanjing Road. Now that is something everyone has got to see. So much light! Just like the Wangfujing in Beijing, Khao Sanh in Bangkok and Ladies Street in Hong Kong.

Nice blog. I discovered it a few weeks back and I've been reading everyday since then. It is certainly a nice read. It is also really neat. Some people's blog are a mumble jumble of stuff.

You write really funny and I laugh a lot. Keep it up.

Wow guys! So many comments. Where do I start?

@ Lesley: Everything ready for our trip. I contacted KLM Staff Travel and they approved the IPB on the KL1007. I'll pick up the tickets either Monday when I arrive in AMS or if they are already closed, I'll pick them up Tuesday when I go pick up Jeandrina.

@ Micheline: Yeah.. I really liked it a lot as well. And it cost me next to nothing. Congratulations on your graduation, by the way. Anyway have a great flight to St. Maarten and enjoy yourself on "the friendly island". Greet your parents for me.

I'll e-mail my Unit Manager to see if he can arrange an upgarde fpr you and Theo on the flights to Paris and St. Maarten. No promisses though! Dress well. No jeans for Theo!

Have a nice flight and see you in a month.

@ Robbedoes: Finnair AY0845 HEL-AMS.

@ Marlon from Scranton, USA: Welcome to another blog reader. The more the merrier! Enjoy it and feel free to e-mail me, add me to MSN, leave a comment or ask a question.

Darrell: Yo! Bo ta bek for di Corsow caba? Of bo ta eynan ainda?

@ Ma & Pa: Regards back!

@ Jeandrina: See you on Tuesday afternoon. Remember you are IPB, so behave yourself. And yes... I got you a seat in Business Class, so act accordingly. Paying passengers come first and then you. Whatever the Purser or crew ask of you just do it. Enjoy the ride...

@ Andy: Héél erg goedkoop man! Dolce & Gabanna, Lacoste etc.!!!

@ Harold: tell me about it!
