Shanghai: Day 2

Sofitel Hyland Hotel, Shanghai - Local time 15.15

Trip report Xi'an - Shanghai

After we woke up in Xi'an, Brenda and I took turns to shower, repacked our handbags and checked-out of the hotel. We took a cab to Xi'an Xiangyang Airport (XIY). Once there we grabbed a cup of coffee and headed straight to the departure gate, since we already checked-n the day before. I noticed we were flying a Boeing 757.

Our airplane. Shanghai Airlines (FM)

What a horrible flight that was! That plane was making the weirdest sounds I ever hears during take-off! I have flown a lot in my life and I experienced a lot of crap in the air, but this was the top! I never was so happy when the weels of that plane touched down at Shanghai Honqiao (SHA) airport!

After we collected our bags we went outside where Alexander (Alex) and Benjamin (Benny) were waiting for us.

We had to go directly from the airport to the hotel, change our clothes and go to a meeting with Swissport. Swissport International Ltd. is the world's largest ground handling company.

Swissport

As I stated before AF is increasing it's flight to PVG and wants Swissport to provide dedicated AF staff in AF uniform. Of course we of AFC have to settle the terms of agreement with Swissport about the criteria when hiring AF agents. Unlike other ground handlers, AF doesn't want its dedicated staff to handle any other flights than AF. Not even KLM. Also training in AF's product & services, rules & procedures and airport systems (Amadeus & Gaetan) has to be done partially in Shanghai, but for the most part AF wants all the dedicated staff to follow training with the Air France Training & Development Academy in Vilgénis, France. So we have to go through a whole lot of points, before Swissport, AFC and AF can come to a definite agreement. When this happens we have to hire a local Service Manager and Duty Station Manager and buy ACARS adresses from SITA Technologies (like: PVGPHAF, PVGPOAF etc.) Swissport will do AF's Passenger Services, Ticketing & Reservation Services, Flight Operations, Crew Contol and Cargo Services in Shanghai. The whole process can take 2 months, but we are only here for the initial talks. Team #4 will continue to the end, as team #3 is going on summer break.

As for R. he is enjoying his off-duty time in the warm Holland sun. His AMM trip in the country of Jordan was a big success. Check out these pics he sent me over MSN.

Floating in the Dead Sea. The Sea is so salt that one can float. You can never drown. This is the only place in the world that this is done

No they are not black. they are taking a mud bad at the Dead Sea

Well that's it for me. Time to go see what Shanghai has to offer. And no... I will not go shopping. My pocketbook already took a blow from my Hong Kong trip! Lol!

AMM is een geweldige bestemming. Het valt wel onder EUR en niet ICA, maar de hotel is geweldig! De mensen zijn ook heel erg aardig natuurlijk.

Have fun and be carefull son. I am jjust back from London. The weather was all rainy and stuff. Your Dad is coming in on the last KLM flight from Geneva tonight.

I spoke to him over the phone and he asked if you can get a bottle of Rémy Martin VSOP Cognac for him at the duty free store on your way back to Holland. If not, don't bother. He'll ask Robin when he goes to Curaçao next week.
